State Electric Company (Stelco) has launched sale of its mineral water bottles “Stelco Fen” – water from vapor produced from the heat of its generators which is processed and then bottled.
Stelco reports that the water launched for sale to the general public this Sunday is produced through an environment friendly process. And had been tested and used internally by the company for 20 years.
“Stelco Fen” was launched in a function held this Sunday at Stelco by Minister of Environment, Toriq Ibrahim and Managing Director of Stelco, Abdul Shukoor.

Speaking during the function, Stelco’s MD Abdul Shukoor said “Stelco Fen” was produced from vapor which ensured its purity. He said the water was purer than the water supply from RO plants.
“The demand for “Stelco Fen” is high. But there may be a lower supply than the demand since the water bottled is excess of the water used to cool the generators,” said Shukoor.
“Stelco Fen” is available in five sizes; 330 ml, 500 ml, 1 l, 1.5 l, and 5 l.
Rates:
- A case of 330 ml water bottles: MVR 50.40
- A case of 500 ml water bottles: MVR 52.80
- A case of 1 l water bottles: MVR 38.40
- A case of 1.5 l water bottles: MVR 52.80
- A case of 5 l water bottles: MVR 48.00
Speaking during the function, Minister Toriq expressed hope “Stelco Fen” will prove to be an equally competitive brand in the market.

He noted that plastic bottles were a huge threat to the environment. And stressed that it was the responsibility of water companies to establish a recycling system.
Toriq called out for the need of a system to recycle empty water bottles in order to ensure sustainable development.
