Siyam: Hoarafushi will have an airport by end of 2018

The government will build an airport in H. A. Hoarafushi by the end of 2018, says Ahmed Siyam Mohamed (Sun Siyam), Leader of government coalition partner Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

Siyam made the announcement during the function held in Hoarafushi last Saturday night to introduce the three MDA candidates competing for Hoarafushi council seats in the upcoming Local Council Election.

Siyam recalled how he promised an airport in Hoarafushi if the people voted for MDA candidate Mohamed Ismail during Local Council Election in 2014.

“I said Ihavandhippolhu and Hanimaadhoo are too far. That there are rough seas in between.

That the people of Ihavandhippolhu and Hoarafushi deserve an airport. That if you elect Mohamed Ismail, I’ll build an airport. That I will arrange speedboats until an airport is built,” said Siyam.

Siyam said an airport in Hoarafushi will be built as part of the iHaven project in Ihavandhippolhu.

“God willing, Hoarafushi will have an airport by end of 2018. If the airport isn’t there, transport will continue as right now. I want an airport for the people of this island,” said Siyam.

Siyam also promised additional futsal turfs to Hoarafushi.

“This island has a large population. So just one futsal turf isn’t enough. I bring the happy news that, god willing, more futsal turfs will be built on this island,” said Siyam.

He said the PPM-MDA coalition had brought invaluable projects and benefits to Hoarafushi.

He said that any support for the opposition may be a barrier to the progress being brought about by the government.

“We want what you want – to do what the people of Hoarafushi want,” said Siyam.
