Qasim remanded by 15 days

Criminal Court has remanded the Leader of Jumhooree Party, Qasim Ibrahim by 15 days.

The remand hearing was held at the Criminal Court at 4:45 p.m. today. The JP Leader was taken back to Dhoonidhoo after the hearing.

Qasim was previously arrested in suspicion of bribing in relation to the no confidence vote against the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, and the pending no confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker, Riko Moosa Manik.

He was charged with attempted bribery, using influence in executing responsibilities of an official position and attempting to influence a voter.

Qasim was arrested late last night in suspicion of influencing MPs to submit a no confidence motion against the Speaker of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed with 42 signatures of MPs. He is currently detained in police custody at Dhoonidhoo.
