An amendment to the Local Government Authority (LGA) regulation has been brought in to the Parliament floor that would allow the LGA Board to be formed without the local councilors.
The amendment submitted by the MP for Ungoofaaru constituency, Jaufaru Dauood, leads to change the current formation of the LGA Board by making an amendment to Article 62 of the LGA Law.
According to the amendment, the number of members on the board will be cut down from nine to only five members and suggest changes to the current standing of having Atoll and Island Councilors on the board.
MP Jaufaru told Sun Media that the amendment was to have five members on the LGA Board which would not include Councilors but professionals.
He said that the travel arrangements for the councilors on the LGA Board is also an issue that would be resolved with the new amendment. And with professionals on the Board, it would improve productivity of the councils and help resolve conflicts among the councils.
