Maldives Medical Council (MMC)’s annual report shows it cancelled licenses of five foreign medical doctors and suspended the license of one foreign medical doctor working in Maldives in 2016.
The report shows three of the doctors who had their licenses cancelled were Indian, one was Nepalese and one was Egyptian.
The doctor who had his license suspended is a Bangladeshi citizen.
The report includes the identities of the doctors and the reasons for the penalties.
One of the doctors had his license revoked due to bogus credentials and the rest due to inability to verify the medical certificates issued to them from their home countries. And the Bangladeshi doctor had his license suspended due to an investigation involving him.
Three cases submitted to MMC remains open – all of which involves deaths. They are two cases involving death of infants during childbirth in August and death of a woman who slipped into a coma after a surgery.
