There’s a 50/50 chance Maldivian model and medical student Raudha Athif’s death is not a suicide, reports Bangladesh police.
The Bangladesh police had been reporting that Raudha had hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her dorm room at Islami Bank Medical College in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, in a suicide.
But Assistant Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Ameen Hussain was quoted by Dhaka Tribune in an interview last Tuesday that there was no conclusive evidence Raudha’s death was a suicide.
Ameen said both Raudha’s laptop and mobile phone have now been sent to Criminal Investigation Department in Dhaka for analysis.
“There’s a 50 percent chance her death is not a suicide,” said Ameen.
A team of two Maldivian police officers are currently in Bangladesh to ensure the case is properly investigated.
They have interviewed students and officials from Raudha’s college, and looked at Raudha’s dorm room – checking the doors, windows and contents inside the room.
Raudha’s family has accused the Bangladesh police of negligence in their investigation into the case.
Raudha’s father, Mohamed Athif reports there were strangle marks visible on Raudha’s neck – something which the Bangladesh police denies.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Detective Branch, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Alamin Hussain said the marks on Raudha’s neck were consistent with hanging, and not manual strangulation.
