A large number of students attended classes as schools reopened this Sunday after they were closed down due to the H1N1 influenza alert.
Ministry of Education had tried to reopen the schools last week but had given in after only few students attended classes with majority of parents refusing to send children to schools due to concerns over the health risk.
Schools reported a large number of students attended classes this Sunday when schools were reopened this time.
“This is just like any other ordinary day. A large number of students attended classes,” said a
Leading Teacher from Kalafaanu School.
Schools like Majeedhiyya Schools which saw as low as five students per class last week also reported that a large number of students attended classes this Sunday.
Health Protection Agency has now dissolved the Level III alert level it issued over the influenza outbreak, announcing that public gatherings were no longer a threat.
The H1N1 influenza outbreak has resulted in six fatalities so far this year.
