Police confiscates flag and name board from PPM President’s Office

Maldives Police Service has taken away the flag and the name board from the office of the PPM President’s Office.

Around 7 p.m. tonight, a team of S.O. Police took down the name board of the office and broke the lock on the gate, went in and took down the PPM flag.

Police ordered the PPM President’s Office to take down the name board and flag before 6 p.m. today. The order from the Police said that if it comes to the police removing the name board and flag for disobeying the order, they would not be responsible for any damage to the property.

An order issued by the Civil Court last night said that the running of PPM has been charged with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and forming an office by the name of the President of PPM and conducting events and activities is in direct obstruction to the implementation of the court ruling.

And so the court ordered the police to remove the PPM flag and name board at Henveiru Themaa and stop all activities being run in the name of PPM.

When the police were removing the name board and flag, supporters of President Maumoon gathered at the area in protest.

Talking to the press from the area, the MP for Thulusdhoo constituency, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (a.k.a. Lawyer Wadde) said that removing the flag and name board will not put an end to the people’s support for President Maumoon.

Wadde said that actions have only been raising the support for the former President.

Police have now taken charge at the PPM President’s Office and S.O. officers are still active outside the office.
