Supreme Court has cancelled the candidacy of two Jumhoory Party candidates for the upcoming local council elections.
The two candidates are:
1. Imran Anwar: G. A. Vilingili Council
2. Fareedha Umar: N. Landhoo Council
Supreme Court cancelled the candidacy following complaints filed by Elections Commission.
The court said documents provided by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) showed Imran Anwar competed in the MDP primary before applying for and winning the JP primary.
And documents provided by Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) showed Fareedha Umar competed in the MDA primary before applying for and winning the JP primary.
The court ruled that according to law on political parties, neither Imran Anwar nor Fareedha Umar had the right to compete in this year’s council elections.
