HPA: 23 more cases, public gatherings no longer a threat

Statistics show 23 new cases of H1N1 influenza in the country over the last 48 hours; the situation has now returned to enough normalcy, reports Health Protection Agency.

Statistics released two days back show 14 new cases over 48 hours, but the numbers show an increase in new H1N1 cases over the last 48 hours.

Director General of Public Health of HPA, Maimoona Abu Bakr reports the situation has now returned to enough normalcy that public gatherings are no longer a threat.

She said the increase in new cases of H1N1 didn’t mean the outbreak was out of control.

“The number of people consulting doctors with symptoms of the flu is noticeably lower. The number of admissions is also low. So we can say this is now a normal state. Public gatherings are not an issue. But if you have the flue, stay home,” said Maimoona.

Statistics released by HPA this Wednesday show 1,154 people with symptoms of the flu consulted doctors over the past 48 hours. 73 of them were tested for H1N1, out of whom 23 people tested positive.

20 people who tested positive for H1N1 are currently hospitalized, and 10 people were released after treatment from hospitals over the past 48 hours.
