Mahloof punished with one-month suspension of prison privileges

South Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has been punished with a one-month suspension of his prison privileges for comments made which reportedly pose a national security risk.

Mahloof’s wife, Nazra Naseem spoke to “Sun” this Wednesday and said that prison privileges were suspended because Mahloof has reportedly talked about matters which posed a threat to national security during his last family phone call.

Maldives Correctional Service has confirmed this to “Sun”.

MCS’s information officer, Ahmed Lugmaan said Mahloof was being punished with a one-month suspension to his privileges starting this Wednesday for violation of regulation.

He disclosed no details.

Mahloof’s wife, Nazra said that the comments in question was Mahloof encouraging the no-confidence motion against Speaker of People’s Majlis Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed, and appealing to Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan to allow him to attend Majlis to vote in support of de-seating Maseeh.

The privileges Mahloof has been cut off from includes family phone calls, family visits and conjugal visits.

She said Mahloof was currently being kept in solitary confinement at Maafushi Prison.

Mahloof is serving a six-month and four-month sentence on two separate charges of obstruction of law enforcement. He will finish serving his sentence in June.
