With two out of three generators used to power Maduvvari broken and with no electricity since this morning, the people of the island has said that they would be spending tonight in darkness as well.
The island has had no electricity since this morning and a man from the island said that the people are living in poor condition.
With none of the island’s power company FENAKA’s officials answering their phones, there have been no official word from the company.
An employee of FENAKA who wishes to remain anonymous said that the broken are the biggest generator used to power the island (the 250 kW) and the 160 kW engine.
The anonymous employee said that they have a 128 kW working but it can only power 40 houses every two hours. There are 398 residential homes in Maduvvari.
One of the main complaints is that children cannot sleep since it’s too hot and too dark.
A teacher working at island’s school said classes were conducted at the school grounds under the trees.
Talking to Sun Media, a business owner in the island said that all the products in the refrigerators are no longer cold and unusable.
President of the Madvvari Island Council, Hassan Abdul-Raheem said that the island has no electricity since two of the three generators in the island’s powerhouse are broken.
