Majority Leader at the Parliament, MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that they have no concerns regarding the leak of an audio clip of a conversation among the members of the PPM Parliamentary Group.
Two weeks ago, an audio clip containing the conversation of the Majority Leader and a group of people regarding the amendment of the law to allow foreigners to own land in Maldives was released on social media. And last week, a conversation about the no-confidence motion of the Parliament President Abdulla Maseeh by members of the PPM Parliamentary Group was leaked.
Talking TVM’s “Raajje Miadhu” (Maldives Today) program last night, Nihan said that such leaks are not a concern.
He said that is a conversation, be it serious or not, if one listens to it with parts omitted, it would lose it’s meaning.
Nihan said that they would no comment on audio that is released with omissions.
In the audio leak last week, some members spoke saying that it is difficult to vote in support for Maseeh. The people on the audio are the MP for the South Fuvahmulah constituency, Ali Shaah, MP for South Thinadhoo constituency, Abdulla Ahmed, MP for Dhuvaafaru constituency, Mohamed Ali and the Majority Leader, Nihan.
In response to questions from Sun Media regarding the audio leak, MP Shaah said that there would be casual “fun” conversations among MPs when they are close but if the PPM Parliament Group issues a whip-line, no member would go against it.
