President: Faafu atoll project moving forward, will meet King soon

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the Saudi Government project in Faafu atoll will move forward and is going to meet with the Saudi King, Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Speaking at the signing of members of PPM today held at Dharubaaruge, President Yameen said that even with the Saudi King delaying the visit to the Maldives due to the H1N1 outbreak, he would be meeting the Saudi King soon.

And some of the state ministers would be travelling to Saudi Arabia to sign some of the agreements with the Saudi government. The President said that the agreements are regarding Saudi aid to the Maldives.

The President said that the Saudi King has invited him to visit Saudi Arabia and is hoping to make the visit during the upcoming Hajj season.

President Yameen said that the project about to begin in the Maldives by some members of the Saudi royal family did not begin in this regime but when President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Ahmed was running the country.

The President has previously stated that the government is not going to sell any place and he repeated the statement today. He said that no one would be allowed to get ownership of any place.

President said that even now the laws allow leasing of islands to 99 years and some places have been given as such.

And the President said that the oppositions are raising concerns not because they don’t have information but because major investments are coming to the Maldives. President Yameen said that he would meet the Saudi King soon and get the “opportunity to do the things we want to do.”

President Yameen has said that the project in Faafu atoll will become the biggest project in the country so far.
