1,098 people treated at IGMH for flu

Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) reports 1,098 people have been treated at the hospital for flu over the last four days.

The outbreak in flu, and unprecedented rise in number of confirmed cases of the H1N1 influenza (swine flu) in the country led to IGMH opening a flu-clinic at the hospital.

The flu-clinic has since been relocated to nearby Thaajuddin School due to the overwhelming number of people showing up with symptoms of the flu.

State Trading Organization has now set up one of its pharmacies at the school premises.

Director of IGMH’s Media Unit, Ahmed Mausoom reported to “Sun” that 1,098 people with symptoms of the flu were treated at the hospital over the past four days, out of whom 473 people were treated last Tuesday alone.

IGMH has not released the number of people who tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Authorities last released the number of positive cases last Monday night. The count had stood at 51 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus and one fatality then.

Flu-clinics have now been set up by IGMH, ADK Hospital, and Hulhumale’ Hospital.
