Statistics released by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) shows majority of the cases filed with ACC in 2016 were corruption allegations involving local councils.
ACC’s annual report shows more than 700 cases were filed with the commission in 2016, out of which 349 cases involved corruption allegations against councils.
The second highest number of cases filed with the commission involved State-owned companies, with 110 cases. Its followed by 97 cases against the Ministry of Education.
Local councils are bereft with allegations of corruption, nepotism and political influence.
Local council elections are due to be held in April 14.
