MP Areef loses MDA membership

MP for the Nolhivaram constituency, MDA’s Hussain Areef has been dismissed from the party.

The decision was made moments ago by the disciplinary committee of the MDA.

Former MDP member and the former Councilor of the Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram Island Council, got elected to the parliament on the ticket of the Jumhooree Party. Since then he has left MDP and joined PPM before becoming a member of MDA.

Since voting against the government’s bill on Anti-defamation and freedom of expression seven months ago, MP Areef joined the Maumoon faction formed after the internal conflict within the ruling party, PPM.

The former member of MDA, the only political party to remain in the government coalition since the PPM government came to power, MP Areef has been criticizing the government openly.
