National airlines, Maldivian says its flights between Male’ City and Sri Lankan capital, Colombo will be cheaper than other airlines.
Maldivian will not be operating its flights between Velana International Airport and Bandaranaike International Airport, but to the Ratmalana Airport in Colombo – which was Sri Lanka’s first international airport.
Managing Director of Island Aviation, Abdul Haaris reported to “Sun” this Thursday that the company plans to have its Lanka operations up and running by April.
He also said that the ticket fare will be lower than that currently offered by other airlines.
“Our ticket fare will be lower than what is offered by airlines currently flying to Lanka,” said Haaris.
Haaris said that the Ratmalana Airport was an approximate 15-minute drive to places frequented by Maldivians such as Dhehiwala, and closer to hospitals.
“There will be huge conveniences once Maldivian starts its operations. We will also station Maldivian staff there,” said Haaris.
Maldivian started operations to Lanka once before, but it was grounded after a short period of time.
Haaris expressed confidence history will not repeat itself, and said that operations were being launched this time with the purpose of travelling to and from Sri Lanka – which has a population of 13,000 Maldivians – easier.
