An elderly patient at Fuvahmulah City hospital has been transported to Male’ City on Maldives National Defense Force’s helicopter “Rehendhi”.
Manager of Fuvahmulah hospital, Mohamee Faruzaan reported that the 67-year-old man was transported to Male’ City on the helicopter this Saturday morning.
Faruzaan said the patient was admitted to the hospital last Thursday, February 23, and that one-half of his body was paralyzed.
“He was being treated for suspected internal bleeding. He was transported to Male’ at the request of the doctor as CT scan services are not available from here,” he said.
Faruzaan said MNDF’s assistance in transporting the patient was sought after challenged in getting him a seat on a commercial flight.
“Rehendhi” helicopter was gifted by the Indian government to MNDF in April, 2016.
The helicopter is most frequently used in medical evacuations and search and rescue operations.
