President: Progress requires cooperation from all fronts

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed for assistance and cooperation from all stakeholders working in different fields, which he said was vital in order to bring substantive progress to Maldives.

Speaking during the function held by Progressive Party of Maldives at Stelco this Tuesday afternoon to celebrate a boost in its membership numbers, President Yameen said a lot of parties were involved in the efforts to bring progress to the country.

“Whether its political or economic or social or even arranging a teacher for a local school – we need assistance for everything,” said President Yameen.

He said the efforts of Cabinet ministers and lawmakers who worked with the government was to bring the progress they envisioned for the country.

“During the efforts to establish a government, we identified issues which were causing the people distress and the path we saw to solving the issues. It was shared in our manifesto,” he said.

President Yameen said that the government needed assistance on a lot of fronts in order to complete the development projects noted in the manifesto, and that each project required a lot of finance.

“Just because there is a figure written in the budget, it’s not necessary to have the amount in hand at the start of the year or at the end of the year. The government needs to do what it needs to do to earn the money – including initiatives to increase income.”
