Another teacher loses job over face-veil

A teacher who wears the face-veil has been fired from her job in A. A. Rasdhoo School.

The woman is a Quran teacher, Thahmeena Mohamed.

Rasdhoo councilman Abdulla Muhaimin reported to “Sun” that he wasn’t aware when the Quran teacher was fired, but that she has been provided employment at the preschool.

He said that Thahmeena started working in the preschool last Monday, February 6.

The preschool is run on fees taken from students and funding by Rasdhoo Council.

Civil service regulation bans any civil servant from wearing clothing in the workplace which prevents him or her from being identifiable.

A petition has been filed with High Court asking that the ban be reversed to allow women to keep their face-veils on at the workplace.
