MNDF launches fire safety check on all watercraft

Maldives National Defense Force has launched a fire safety check on all watercraft operating in the country.

The joint operation by MNDF Fire and Rescue Service and MNDF Coastguard was launched this Sunday morning from the North Harbor in Male’ City.

Explaining the operation, Deputy Commander of Fire and Rescue, Major Mohamed Nadheem said that officers will be checking to ensure all required fire safety measures are taken.

“Fires damage people’s property and pose threats to people in other ways. So the purpose of such an operation is to ensure the safety of the people and people’s property from such incidents,” said Nadheem.

He said that officers will be checking all watercraft currently in use in Male’ City and in the atolls.

Commander of MNDF Male’ Area Coastguard Squadron, Captain Hassan Shinan said that in addition to fire safety measures, officers will also be checking for licenses of people captaining the watercrafts as well as checking whether all fee payments are up-to-date.

Captain Shinan said that violations will be met with warnings and penalties.

He said officers will also be instructing people on importance of proper fire safety measures and steps to take in dealing with fires.
