Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO), Ahmed Shaheer has announced an additional storage for the fuel it imports into the country will be built and made operational in Addu City, this year.
In an exclusive interview to “Sun”, Shaheer said that STO was engaged in discussions with Addu International Airport Company regarding the additional fuel storage, and that the company expected to be granted land from Gan in Addu City, very soon.
“We already use tanks over there. We are discussing with Addu International Airport Company to build the storage in Gan, Addu, and we are being granted land there. If we reach an understanding with the company, we will be able to open the storage in Addu, this year,” said Shaheer.
Shaheer said the new storage will have the capacity to store 8,000 tons of fuel.
Shaheer also said STO was working on expanding the capacity of its fuel storage in Funadhoo.
And that the work was expected to be complete in three months.
“It will be complete within the next three months. In addition, the tender process is ongoing to purchase a large fuel tanker. We will be able to utilize the tanker by the time the fuel storage is complete,” he said.

STO will be granted a plot of land the size of 10,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet from Gan.
