DJA: Five courts were burned on 8 February, only one was rebuilt

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has said that five courts were burned down on 8 February 2012 and only one of those courts have been rebuilt.

A report published by the DJA said that the Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Seenu atoll Hithadhoo, Maradhoo and Feydhoo and Hulhudhoo Courts were complete burned down in the fires set on 8 February 2012 and the only courthouse that was rebuilt was the Thinadhoo Court.

Thinadhoo Court is currently operating out of the former Island Office. The Maradhoo Court is running out of the Maradhoo-Feydhoo Court.

DJA said that aside from the five courts, three other courts were damaged and the three courts have now been renovated and back in use.

The DJA said that a fire was set to those courts around 7:40 p.m. on 8 February 2012but it was quickly controlled.

The fires destroyed all equipment and machinery beyond use at the Maradhoo Court but the fire was contained before it could spread.
