President: MDP seen circumambulating 1 person

President Abdulla Yameen Abdulla Gayoom has commented the main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was seen circumambulating around one person.

President Yameen made the comment during the function held this Wednesday to celebrate 750 people from Addu City joining the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

He said that a political party shouldn’t be about one person, but that it was what he saw when

looking at MDP.

“In our opposition party, we see circumambulation around one person. With just one Kaaba, they circumambulate around one person. There is no end, center or hope in that,” said President Yameen.

He said that every political party must accept the rise of other political leaders. And that each party must adhere to its policies, bodies and beliefs instead of focusing on one person.

“The party belongs to its common members. The common members have set certain policies and have elected representatives to ensure everything is done according to policy,” said President Yameen.

President Yameen said he did not see any political party active in Maldives except for PPM.

He said that by end of the term, people will be trained from within its ranks to assume responsible positions.

He said that PPM events proved it had an army of people who are hardworking and capable of assuming positions of responsibility.
