Court cancels Imran’s appeal hearing

High Court has cancelled the appeal hearing of Leader of Adhaalath Party, Al-Sheikh Imran Abdulla scheduled for this Wednesday morning.

Court was scheduled to hear appeal of Imran’s 12-year prison sentence for terrorism at 10:30 am this Wednesday after a break of 10 months.

High Court has not yet announced a reason for the cancellation.

It’s expected that an additional hearing will be scheduled before a verdict is issued as one of the judges who presided over the case – Judge Sujau Usman has been transferred to the southern division of High Court which means changes to the Bench.

Imran was sentenced to 12-years in prison by Criminal Court on February 16, 2016 after he was found guilty of instigating violence through his speeches at the opposition demonstrations on May 1, 2015.

Imran submitted 12 points of contention in his appeal of the sentence.
