Secretary-General of SAARC calls on President Yameen

Secretary-General of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, Arjun Bahadar Thapa has paid his farewell call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The meeting took place at President’s Office, this Tuesday morning.

President’s Office reports President Yameen expressed his appreciation for assistance and support provided by Thapa during his tenure as Secretary-General of SAARC.

He also expressed confidence in the potential of South Asian Free Trade Area to enhance economic and social development of the South Asian region. And the need to strengthen the role of SAARC by increased cooperation between member countries for mutually favorable outcomes.

President Yameen wished Thapa well in his future endeavors.

President Yameen was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim and Minister of State at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer.
