MDP decides against questioning Ministers at Parliament

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided not to summon members of the cabinet of the current government for questioning at the Parliament.

MDP said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s government came to power through a coup, and its ministers took over the ministries by force; it would thus not be appropriate for MPs to conduct inquiries on the ministers at the Parliament.

At today’s meeting, members discussed the issue of asking tourists visiting Maldives whether they support an early election. It was also decided that Hithadhoo Uthuru MP Mohamed Aslam will represent MDP at the International Leaders Program in Florida, USA, from 27 to 30 August.

The MDP national steering committee meeting was chaired by MDP Deputy Administrative Chairperson Ali Shiyam. The meeting was attended by 23 members.
