Nasheed arrives in Sri Lanka for internal talks of MDP

Former President Mohamed Nasheed, who acquired political asylum in the UK while on a medical visit while serving a prison sentence, has arrived in Sri Lanka.

The arrival of the ex-President, also a former President of MDP, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison, was confirmed to Sun Media by a high ranking official of MDP. But he did not give any details on the visit.

Some media outlets have reported that the purpose of Nasheed’s visit is to discuss the future of MDP with it’s leaders. And the heads of MDP are to meet the ex-President in Lanka.

Nasheed has visited Sri Lanka since his asylum at UK and recently made a trip to United States of America as well.

The Maldivian government has cancelled Nasheed’s passport.

And the former President has previously declared his intention to return to the Maldives before the next Presidential Election.
