Ministry: Record increase in O’ Level top ten students

Ministry of Education has announced a high level of performance by Maldivian students who sat the Cambridge O’ Level exams in 2016, leading to a record number of top ten students.

The largest number of Maldivian students to top the O’ Levels was back in 2015 when 504 students topped the exams.

Education Officer of Ministry of Education, Ibrahim Asif Rasheed reports the number of students who topped the O’ Levels in 2016 are higher than 2015.

Asif said he cannot release the exact number of students who topped the exams until the result re-check is complete.

There has been a progressive improvement in O’ Level results of Maldivian students since 2014.

475 students where at the top ten in 2014, and 504 students in 2015.

Ministry of Education has not yet announced a date in which the awards ceremony for top ten students will be held.

Maldivian students who scored the highest marks in exams, globally, the Best in Maldives Award and the High Achievers Award will also be given out during the ceremony.

5,410 Maldivian students sat for O’ Levels in 2016, and the results showed improvement.

The percentage of passes in subjects showed an increase except for Business Studies, which showed a slight drop.

The biggest improvement was in Arts subjects.

Number of students who failed to pass in any subjects and got the “U” grade dropped by 5 percent compared to 2015.
