Yumna questioned over documents missing from PPM office

Daughter of former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Dhunya Maumoon was questioned regarding the documents missing from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) office at the police headquarters this Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after her 11:30 am appointment with the police, Dhunya said that she spoke to police officers outside PPM office on October 28, 2016 when she heard reports a group of people had sawed through the lock and made their way into the office.

She said she requested the officers to open the lock and take out the material inside in the presence of both the parties.

Dhunya said she talked to the police about what took place on October 27 and 28. And told them it was difficult for her to account for what happened to the material inside.

“That we cannot bear responsibility. That the police were there. That it was some other people who sawed through the lock and removed the materials inside. And that it is therefore difficult for us to answer questions regarding what happened to it,” said Dhunya.

Police informed Dhunya the investigation into the case was ongoing, and that she would be summoned for further questioning if the need arises.

Dhunya’s father, President Maumoon is also the leader of PPM.

Thulusdhoo representative of People’s Majlis, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, and other members of Maumoon’s faction - Deputy Leader, Aminath Nadhira, Secretary-General Abdul Aleem, and Assistant Registrar Fathimath Shahida have also been questioned by police regarding the case.
