Police has sent the case of former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed detention of the current President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom – who had been parliamentary representative for Mulak at the time – for prosecution.
Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham reported to “Sun” this Tuesday that Prosecutor General’s Office was working with the police to complete procedural formalities of the case.
Bisham reported that police have requested the prosecution of Nasheed – and his Minister of Defense at the time – Ameen Faisal over the arrest.
Ameen Faisal’s trial began on December 29, 2016.
Ameen Faisal is accused of arresting President Yameen – who had been a parliamentary representative at time – against his will, and taking him into the custody of Maldives National
Defense Force under the pretense it was for his protection on 1:45 am, July 15, 2010, and keeping him in Aarah until July 23, 2010.
He has been charged under the old Anti-Terrorism Act.
