Elderly man found dead in Nolhivaramfaru lagoon

An elderly man has been found dead in the lagoon of H. Dh. Nolhivaramfaru.

The man has been identified as 75-year-old Moosa Ibrahim from the island.

President of Nolhivaramfaru Council, Ahmed Riyaz reported to “Sun” that Moosa’s body was found from the lagoon on the western end of the island this Monday morning.

Riyaz said that Moosa was a mentally disabled man who lived alone with no one to look after him.

“He has children. They all live in Male’. He has mental health issues. He tries to venture into the ocean often,” said Riyaz.

Moosa’s body was discovered by Abdul Kareem Abdul Rahman who said he found the body from the lagoon as he was transporting a person from Kulhudhuffushi to Nolhivaramfaru on a dinghy.

He said that Moosa had only a t-shirt on, and assessed he had been dead for a couple of hours.

“There were no injuries visible on the body. I think it had been at least three or four hours since he had died – based on the hardness of his body,” said Abdul Kareem Abdul Rahman.

Moosa’s body is currently being kept in the Nolhivaramfaru Health Center.

Police have started investigating the case.
