Energy drinks banned at all facilities under the Health Ministry

Ministry of Health has banned the sale and use of all energy drinks at any of the facilities including cafés and shops under the ministry.

A statement issued by the ministry today said that the sale of energy drinks in any of the cafes and shops at a facility under the ministry has been banned.

And the consumption and carrying such drinks at the facility and grounds of any health-related service center is illegal.

The Ministry has banned energy drinks at a time when the government is taking several steps against energy drinks such as banning public advertising of energy drinks along with the ban of sale and consumption at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the state hospital in Malé City.

Energy drinks and sports drinks contain caffeine, ginseng, taurine and other substances that are harmful to the human body in high amounts that are being advertised as good.
