National Integrity Commission has started an investigation looking into the alleged unlawful arrest of the MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof.
Sun Media has learned that the NIC is investigating a case filed claiming that the MP was illegally arrested on the evening of 16 July 2016 during a rally.
The case filed at the NIC say that around 4:30 p.m. on the day in question, a Police officer arrested MP Mahloof while he was exercising his freedom of expression within the law near the local market.
It also said that Mahloof had not committed any criminal offense during the course of the rally.
The MP currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted of two counts of obstruction of Police duties. He has served the first sentence of four months and 24 days and is currently into his second sentence of six months.
