MFDA: No issue found with strawberries imported from Egypt

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) have said that no issues have been discovered so far with the strawberries imported from Egypt.

United States have banned the import of frozen strawberries from Egypt in October. Some media outlets reported that Hepatitis A was discovered in the strawberries.

An official from MFDA told Sun Media that the Maldives is importing raw strawberries from Egypt and so far no issues have been discovered with it. And the WHO and EU have not issued any alerts regarding the matter.

The price of strawberries has recently been dropped in the Maldives reducing from the previous price of MVR 50-70 per box to MVR 15-20.

Some of the importers of strawberries said that they get strawberries cheaper since it’s the strawberry season in Egypt.
