State hospital, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will impose a ban on sale of energy drinks from the hospital starting from 2017.
IGMH, which has panned a campaign to promote a healthy lifestyle, announced this Wednesday that it will be banning sale of energy drinks from its canteen and gift shop.
The hospital reported the list does not include drinks which may be prescribed by doctors for treatment.
IGMH has appealed to business which operate at the hospital to arrange for fresh and healthy food and beverage products to be made available.
Maldivian government has started a campaign against unhealthy beverages; banning advertisement, sale or consumption of energy drinks from school property, school activities, and public spaces.
Government has also decided to raise import duty on energy drinks.
