Re-tiling has begun at the Islamic Center area after the current tiles were learned of being poor quality.
The area has been closed for the work. With no word from the Islamic Ministry so far, it is unclear when the project would be completed.
Housing Minister, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously said that the tiles installed at the area were not up to the quality wanted by the government.
Under free aid from China, the Islamic Center area was tiled opened for Ramadan this year. But the tiles had a glass layer on top and instances of cracking and glass splattering. And so the glass layer was broken off and completely removed in November 2016.
The complete removal of the glass year also caused the tiles to lose color.
The Minister said that they did not want a glass layer on top of the tiles.
