Civil Court has ordered the former lawmaker, Ahmed Thasmeen Ali to repay a loan of USD 20,000 which he took from a private citizen back in 2012.
Mohamed Ramiz from G. Lifadhoo, Male’ City filed the lawsuit against Thasmeen, claiming that the politician was supposed to repay the loan amount within a month.
He said that the bank cheque given to him by Thasmeen in case the money failed to be repaid to him within a month’s time had bounced.
He said that Thasmeen had also failed to respond to repeated letters by him, asking that he repay the loan.
Civil Court in the ruling it issued this Thursday said that there was sufficient proof Ramiz gave Thasmeen a loan of USD 20,000, but no proof Thasneem had repaid the loan amount to Ramiz.
Thasmeen was ordered to repay the USD 20,000 and MVR 30,000 in legal fees within a period of one month.
