Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said that land reclamation would begin at Hulhulé for the new seaplane terminal to be built at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA).
Speaking at the signing ceremony today at Hotel Jen for the USD 50 million loan aid from OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) for the new terminal at INIA, the Managing Director of MACL, Aadhil Moosa said that a large portion of the land reclamation phase for the new runway has been completed.
While a second runway is being built at INIA, the seaplane terminal has to be moved since it is too close the new runway.
In the last week of November 2016, Aadhil said that the funding for the new seaplane terminal has been secured.
The new seaplane terminal is set to be built after reclaiming land near the current air traffic control tower.
MACL Manager, Aadhil previously said that relocating the seaplane terminal would not be difficult since advanced equipment required at regular terminals would not be needed there.
The largest seaplane network is in the Maldives and the largest seaplane fleet is the Trans Maldives Airways (TMA). INIA is the seaplane base for TMA and the national airline, Maldivian.
