Ooredoo inaugurates nation-wide submarine cable

Ooredoo Maldives have inaugurated their 1200 km long nation-wide submarine cable as part of the company’s efforts in strengthening their network and supporting to making the Maldives a digital country.

In an ceremony held in Hulhumalé this evening, the service of officially inaugurated by the Home Minister, Azleen Ahmed and other senior officials of the state along with CEO and senior officials of Ooredoo.

Ooredoo’s nation-wide submarine cable would be providing 4G network across the country before the end of 2016 and the involvement of the Maldives in the digital world would be greater according to the telecom company.

CEO of Ooredoo Maldives, Vikram Singha said that Ooredoo believes that the lives of the Maldivian people would be further fulfilled through the ICT technology and broadband services. And while fiber is the backbone of the digital communities across the globe, the company intends to complete the submarine cable installation as soon as possible.

And so the efforts to meet that goal include complete the submarine cable work by 15 January 2017 and provide 4G+ service across the Maldives. The CEO of Ooredoo Maldives also announced a major project to prove high speed broadband internet to all the islands and resorts in an effort to provide the telecommunication services required by the people and businesses.

Speaking at the ceremony today, Home Minister Azleen said that the government would help to upgrade the Ooredoo network to take the ITC sector of the country to another step to realize the government’s goal of including the Maldives in the list of top connectivity countries of the South East Asia.

The Home Minister said that Ooredoo is also a fine example of bringing social and economic development through investments and the company’s services in the Maldives is valued.

Chairman of the Board of Ooredoo Maldives, Khalid Ibrahim al Mahmood also spoke at the ceremony valuing the assistant from the government for the Ooredoo submarine cable project and expressed gratitude. He said that more projects would be conducted in the future to provide the benefit of modern technologies to the Maldivian society and businesses.
