Opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that only former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed’s lawyer, Hassan Latheef applied for the party’s vacant Chairperson position by the end of the deadline.

Application for the Chairperson was open from December 8 to December 14, after former

MDP announced this Thursday that only Hassan Latheef applied for the position.

He is also the only senior MDP official who openly expressed interest in applying for the position in social media.

Hassan Latheef worked as Minister of Youth and Sports during Nasheed’s administration.

He was also announced the Civil Rights Minister in Maldives United Opposition’s Shadow Cabinet.

Hassan Latheef entered the political field as a member of Social Liberal Party – founded by former Leader of MDP, Ibrahim Ismail.
