President: Laws have to be changed to give harsh punishments to those who commit acts of corruption

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that changes have to be brought to the laws to give harsh punishments to those who are engaged in corruption and the obstructions to enforce the punishments needs to be eliminated.

In his address commemorating the International Anti-Corruption Day today, President Yameen called to the government not to commit any acts of corruption in their service to the people.

The President said that “harsh punishments” need to be given to those who commit acts of corruption.

President Yameen said that the government structure needs to be improved with transparency to put an end to corruption and become institutes that work with integrity and does not allow for any form of corruption.

The President also sent the day’s commemorations to the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Hassan Luthufee and the members and employees of ACC.
