President departs to attend AGM of Malaysia’s ruling party

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has left the country for Malaysia to attend the annual general meeting of the ruling party of Malaysia - United Malays National Organisation (UMNO).

President left for Malaysia on a Singapore Airlines flight at approximately 11:25 pm, last Tuesday night.

President’s Office has announced that in addition to attending UMNO’s annual general meeting, President Yameen will also meet with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak.

President’s Office has not stated when President Yameen is due back in the country.

He was accompanied on the trip by Deputy Leaders of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer. As well as Secretary-General of PPM – Nilandhoo MP Dr. Abdulla Khaleel.

Prior to leaving to Malaysia, President Yameen made an appearance at the ceremony held in Hulhumale’ to mark the end of the “Circumcision Camp” held by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim’s charity “Sadagaat Foundation”; and the music festival held at the Alimas Carnival in Male’ to celebrate his administration’s three-year anniversary.
