Fonadhoo representative of People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) has pledged to pass whatever law was necessary to assist President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration in enforcing its manifesto.
Abdul Raheem made the pledge on behalf of fellow Progressive Party of Maldives lawmakers during the function held at Alimas Carnival on Monday night to celebrate the three-year anniversary of President Yameen’s administration.
Abdul Raheem said that PPM lawmakers had provided their full cooperation over the past three years, and would continue to do so.
“Over the past [three years] we have stood steadfast in complying with the wishes of the government, especially President Yameen to do whatever is necessary, to bring any amendment necessary to law and pass whatever law necessary without violating the
Constitution; to enforce the manifesto of the government, bring development to the country, and prosperity to the people,” said Abdul Raheem.
He said that PPM members were proud of the development brought to the country by President Yameen.
Abdul Raheem said that the nation can only achieve prosperity if the people of the country were willing to work together with the government.
He said that the people needed to accept the imposition of taxes and the changes in prices of products.
“Taxes and changes in market prices need to be humbly accepted. Money from it is being spent for our development. For our prosperity. For our future. So I’m saying the people have a part to play in this,” said Abdul Raheem.
