Attorney General Mohamed Anil has announced the State has recovered MVR 15 million out of the millions in State funds noted as “lost” by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
AG Anil made the announcement during the press conference held at President’s Office this Sunday regarding the three-year anniversary celebrations by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.
Anil said that MVR 15 million were recovered through civil lawsuits.
“…We are working on recovering the State funds. A lot of lawsuits have been filed, and if I remember correctly, we have managed to recover MVR 15 million or MVR 16 million,” said Anil.
AG Anil did not provide specifics of the lawsuits filed to recover the MVR 15 million.
He said that the State would file total 26 lawsuits to recover the lost State funds within the next one and a half months.
AG Anil said that the State was highly anticipating the completion of ACC’s investigation into the biggest embezzlement scandal in recent history – the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement case.
