President pays tribute to Castro, “founder of modern day Cuba”

Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence in which he paid tribute to the late, former President of Cuba, Fidel Castro.

Yameen sent his message of condolence to the Cuban President Raul Castro last Saturday, after it was announced that Raul’s brother, the former Cuban President Fidel Castro had passed away on Friday night at the age of 90 years.

It his message, Yameen described Fidel Castro as the “founder of modern day Cuba”.

"It is with deep grief and sadness that I learnt of the passing away of the former President of Cuba and your brother, His Excellency Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz. He was the founder of modern day Cuba and a revolutionary leader who contributed immensely towards the development and wellbeing of the people of Cuba,” read the message.

President Yameen conveyed condolence to President Raul Castro and the people of Cuba on behalf of himself and the people of Maldives.
