AOSIS discusses concerns during COP22

AOSIS (Alliance of Small Island States) has discussed issues of concern to them during the COP22 underway in Marrakech, Morocco.

Maldivian government is being represented at the COP22 by Minister of Environment and Energy, Toriq Ibrahim.

Maldives is currently serving as Chair of AOSIS for a second term.

Minister Toriq chaired over an AOSIS ministerial-level meeting which was held in the sidelines of COP22, and discussed issues of high priority to AOSIS and what needs to be done to make necessary achievements during COP22.

Member-countries also discussed strategies to deal with climate change, and lobby for financial assistance needed to make the adjustment.

Speaking to press before leaving to Marrakech, Minister Toriq said that AOSIS would work on securing financial assistance pledged by developed countries to help small island nations deal with climate change.

Member countries will be focusing on the Paris Agreement during the COP22.
