Maldives Customs Service has said that the amount of drugs confiscated at end of October has increased in comparison.
Customs said that they have they have confiscated 50 kilograms of drugs by the end of October 2016 and the amount is significantly higher compared to the past year. They said that the amount of drugs confiscated in the same period of 2015 is 6.9 kilograms.
The drugs confiscated in the first ten months of 2016 include 8.1 kgs of Heroin, 7.5 kgs of Cannabis, 5.1 kgs of Cocaine and 28 kgs of Hash Oil and 1 kg of Methamphetamine with a total street value of MVR 32 million.
Operations conducted sea and airports have had 22 people arrested with drugs by the end of October. Similar operations last year had only eight people arrest.
