Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to request the President to remove Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Jamsheed from his post.
According to JP, the ‘slot’ for Minister of Health belongs to JP.
JP Deputy Leader and Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir said that Dr Jamsheed had denied the offer to join JP, and that JP is no longer in favour of Dr Jamsheed holding the post of Health Minister.
“Dr Jamsheed should be removed, and the slot should be given to us. Slots were assigned to coalition parties, so the President has to remove him. Otherwise we would have to take a no-confidence vote against Dr Jamsheed at the Parliament,” Jabir said.
The Parliament granted approval for Dr Jamsheed today.
JP had issued a three-line-whip against approving Dr Jamsheed as Health Minister; however only four out of six JP MPs voted according to three-line-whip.
Jabir said that if the post of Health Minister is not vacated, JP Council will make a decision on whether to remain with the government coalition.
“The slots of the government given to JP should belong to JP. This is an obvious fact, so that’s what we are basing our request on. We will first hold discussions. We have nothing personal against Dr Jamsheed,” Jabir said.
JP’s meeting with the President will be attended by JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim, JP President Dr Ibrahim Didi and JP Deputy Leader Abdullah Jabir.
The aim is to replace Dr Jamsheed with JP President and former Fisheries Minister Dr Ibrahim Didi.
